Obama lied about contact with Governor Blagojevich over Senate seat.

Illinois Governor ProfilePresident-elect Barack Obama’s camp “corrected the record” about contact he’s had with disgraced Governor Rod Blagojevich regarding his vacated Senate seat, saying the two men never spoke about it. But that doesn’t seem to be the case, since the two were to meet the day after the election to discuss just that, according to this local news story.

While Obama’s campaign manager said the two had spoken, they have quickly tried to back peddle from that statement. But this new revelation casts more doubt on their fuzzy memories.

It’s never the crime, it’s the cover-up. With a movie about Nixon in theaters now you’d think someone would remember that point.

UPDATE: Since the link to the story has been disabled (for reasons unknown), we thought we’d post the screen capture of the story.  Note: It doesn’t matter if the meeting took place or not, it’s clear from the story that Obama and  Blagojevich talked about it the appointment at some point, thus making his new statements lies.

Sounds like selective hearing to me.

You listen to Axelrod before but now when he says he was wrong.

You listen to Axelrod before but not Fitzgerald now.

    Lied?
What a strange definition of the situation.

Let me ask you this, since you seem so concerned with the truth.

Did George Bush lie about WMDs and lead this country into a war against a country which posed little threat to our safety resulting in the deaths of 5000 young american men and women and 100,000+ Iraqi’s?

    Did George Bush Lie?
I only see your apologies for him on your site.
Seems like you believe that it is okay for George Bush to lie.

Listen, there’s a small group of people who’ll never accept Barack Obama as President and these people will stop at nothing to derail his Presidency. Watch and see, they’ll give him a hard time all the 4 years he serves this country. That includes linking him to corrupt officials (just like during the campaign)—it’s the only political power they’ve got now! Same thing’s happening here; like my grandma use to say, “They’re making a mountain out of a mole-hill.”

AS USUAL, OBAMA IS GUILTY AS SIN. THE GUY IS SUCH A PHONEY, IT’S DISGUSTING. OBAMA HAD EXPECTED TO GET HALF THE MONEY THAT BLAGOJEVITCH WAS GOING TO SCREW THE OTHERS OUT OF. WE HOPE THIS EXPOSES BOTH THESE BAD BAST__ DS ONCE AND FOR ALL.

No one is saying what he did was illegal, but it sure looks like a lie. Why? All he had to say was, “Yes, I met with him about it, it would have been neglect not to. But we didn’t talk about money and I had no idea anything like this was happening. If it’s true, I’m disgusted.” Simple and his hands are clean. But he’s trying to cover his ass, which makes him look bad and unable to criticize his own party when they do wrong.

I’m with Big J. Obama is a fraud and will be found out. To Mike88i: What small percentage you talking about? Over 48% of voters went with McCain. That is not a small percentage in anybody’s math book (or did you even take math). As far as his campaign for change – he’s bringing back the Clinton administration. The man doesn’t have creative brain cell in his body. Change? Fat chance.

In the end, who cares about this? No regular American gives a shit if Obama lied and I don’t believe he did. Such knowledge, if it could be proven definitively, is irrelevant to a normal person’s life. The relevance of Presidential action boils down to what has an impact to the average man on the street. If a President gets a free box of cigars from Fidel Castro and doesn’t tell anyone, but his policies grow the economy and make us all fat and happy, do we really care? NO. If the President gets a hummer in the Oval Office, how is that relevant. Anyone who says they care about the man’s character should look hard in the mirror. They are politicizing inconsequential details. If Charlie Sheen raised $10 million for charity, would any reasonable person turn it down on some “moral ground” because he was a regular client of Heidi Fleiss? Hell no! If they did, they are a fool. Now shut up and find something constructive to talk about.

    Senate seat up for grabs
    Hide Caption
Ill. governor meeting with Obama today

    By Carol Sowers
    Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at 10:39 a.m.

CHICAGO, ILL. — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That’s one of Obama’s first priorities today.

He’s meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

There’s already been speculation about his selection…from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago’s south side who co-chaired Obama’s presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.

It’s likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.

Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

KHQA’s Alexis Hunt is speaking with Illinois Senator John Sullivan today about his thoughts on that replacement process, his time working with Obama in the state senate, and if there’s a chance Sullivan might play a role in the Obama administration. Watch KHQA News at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. tonight to hear what he has to say.

Yeah, it’s just like when Bush denied that we torture innocent people to get phony information and then it turns out that he was lying. All the troops that have fought so hard and died for a Bush Cheney lie and still folks like you will continue to scoff at the war crimes we have committed in the name of Freedom and support the lie. Turns out anyone who denies that we torture is a cold-blooded liar and an complicit in war crimes ans should be executed along with all the other guilty criminals in the Bush administration. Sadly, this won’t happen and now, since folks like you have information fatigue and need a new fix every day, our war crimes will be left to our children to have to accept. But, for now, let’s all just lie about it and support the troops blah blah blah.

  15. December 10, 2008 at 4:34 pm

Obama bought the election so why would we think it unusual for Gov. Blagojevich to want to sell his senate seat. Apparently this is the way things are done in Obama’s circle.

  16. December 10, 2008 at 4:40 pm

“Obama is not the bad guy. In fact, he’s helping us by lowering the cost of money for people, increasing grant funds, and more as a bailout package for us.”

    Our Bailout

Yes, I agreed on what chatterman said.

  17. December 10, 2008 at 4:45 pm

I suppose it’s not even possible that the meeting between Blagojevich and Obama never took place. Simply impossible that the President-Elect’s schedule changed? Note the article is written in future tense, not present or past. Not possible that the reporter was presenting speculation? As a former journalist, one thing I learned: don’t trust a damn thing unless you can cross reference it eight times with uniform accuracy.

But whatever. If Obama was supposed to be getting kickbacks, the investigation will find out. I’m inclined to believe Blagojevich was acting on his own and throwing around Obama’s name here there and everywhere to curry favor. The guy’s a complete megalomaniac; everything that comes out of his mouth is an exaggeration or an outright lie. It’s not at all difficult to believe this guy would imagine scenarios in which Obama would quid pro quo. It’s not at all unbelievable that Blagojevich never shared one word with Obama.

  18. 18 Barry from Perry
    December 10, 2008 at 5:03 pm

Dan, the point isn’t if the meeting did or didn’t take place, it’s that Obama’s camp said there was no contact or discussion with the governor about the issue. That was clearly a lie. The question is why?

  19. 19 Salame
    December 10, 2008 at 5:15 pm

The story about Blagojevich, if true, is reprehensible, but it’s his story. It’s not Obama’s. The racist hard core element (Limbaugh and Drudge loyalists) are ciphers and will do everything possible to try to hound Obama from office. It follows then, since they’ve had the birth certificate brouhaha nolled by the Supreme Court, a linkup with this miscreant governor seems a likely next step.

To: Outrage, I wasn’t implying that everyone who voted for Palin/McCain was out to derail Obama’s campaign—just a small group of outraged and disgruntled sore losers. It’s unhealthy to live with a grudge, man. Barack Obama is very smart, and a Democrat and he’s our leader, accept it, geez…

  21. December 10, 2008 at 7:28 pm

Why is it that every time someone has something to say about The Messiah (Obama) liberals want to call them racist? How the hell is Obama meeting with Blagojevich… or the background story behind it racist? This just goes to show that liberals don’t have a leg to stand on.

But you and I both know you never said you were a child molester just like Obama is not the one who said to the “news” that he didn’t talk to good ole corrupt Gov of Illinois.

The idiot governor of Illinois was caught by the FBI saying that the Obama camp wasn’t going to give him anything but thanks for putting a good person into the Senate seat. That should be enough to let you know Obama wasn’t involved.

It doesn’t matter whether they were scheduled to meet or not. The schedule could easily have been broken by either party. Can’t believe I’m defending Obama since I voted for McCain, but now matter who had won, the other side would be posturing for the next election. Despite the fact that Obama hasn’t even been sworn in yet.

Listen folks, we’ve got bigger fish to fry. The banks are f-ing us over and we’re all just whistling past the graveyard. If you give two shits about your family, your kids and/or your country, let’s all get together and get some things done here. Let’s rebuild our roads and bridges and schools and put people to work. Let’s be the first to develop the one energy source everyone else needs, made in the U.S.A. Let’s get our rights back that have been slowly whittled away this past decade and let’s cut the bullshit high school, immature name calling “liberal” “conservative” crap that does nothing but make everyone pissed off. Sheez. Wake up folks and tend to the things that matter instead of this bullshit. I’m not saying it’s not important to hold people accountable but after 8 years of people turning their heads and blowing off the whole concept of accountability, I’m more inclined to do or take care of the things that will help people in the U.S. Things that will create jobs. Actions that will raise our standards once again. Because right now, we’ve become so dumbed down and numb, we’re heading for a wake up call of the likes we’ve never seen.

Let’s get on the same page and be proud together.

Many arguments here are valid, and others show a lack of information. Hannity talking points do not count. To say that Obama and Blagojevich spoke of the issue is a fine argument, although, if according to Fitzgerald’s press conference Obama is not involved, or being looked into. Also, if the wiretapping on Blago began just prior to Oct 31, wouldn’t the conversation be on tape? Keep in mind, we have spent 8 years assuming the worst for obvious reasons, but as a President, Obama has no record. Reports also indicate that it was Obama’s state Senate bill on ethics that is what actually brought down the corrupt Gov., and it was Rahm Emmanuel who made the info available to Fitzgerald. Speculating on this is tedious, and the right-wingers who wish to bring Obama down now, prior to any evidence being brought forward is lazy, and vindictive.

  38. 40 Elizabeth
    December 11, 2008 at 1:41 pm

he has no record as president? he has no record period, except for surrounding himself with extremists. no one is accusing him of a crime, dumbass, just lying. given the ever-changing story from his people why would anyone aside from a complete moron like you believe him? the truth should be no big deal, it would be neglect if he didn’t meet with the gov to talk about his seat. why lie? one reason would be they knew something…pull your head out of your ass and smell the shit already, you mindless idiot.

  39. December 11, 2008 at 2:15 pm

EEEEEEEKKKKK! A name caller, you sound like a half-wit with “jackass, idiot, dumbass etc” I will be the first to be critical when he actually does something wrong. Is this suspicious? Yes, but given a record that actually was critical of this behavior I will give him the benefit of the doubt. In addition, “surrounded himself with extremists” ? Really? So far I do not see anything but but Centrists and Hawks. You ought to read a little more Progressive media, and realize that the Liberal Dems are not offering him a free pass like Bush received from the right. If you would take a few minutes you may realize, spending time reading opposing positions gives a little insight. As the folks here at First Friday stated, it is not clear that what ABC reported actually ever took place, and my open question was if it did, would it not be on tape? Since wiretapping began on or around Halloween. Elizabeth, you and I could agree, Politics is a contact/gotcha sport, but the country as a whole is not in a position for that game at the moment, and should we proceed down that path we get little work done, work that needs to be done. Also, I am sure most readers here would agree, you may save time if you deducted the name calling to one sentence, like if I am the dumbass…you must be the smartass…

Facts are more important than speculation at this point. First, Alexrod is not Obama. Two different people there . . . The media has condemned Blagojevich from seemingly harsh evidence against him. Remember, he is innocent until proven guilty. (I’m not siding with him, I just think that American justice should be worked out to the furthest extent.) This is an opinion you are entitled to hold, but are you sure your evidence is unbiased? That is important before affirming an opinion.

    December 11, 2008 at 3:06 pm

I’m sure you were a level headed about all the wild speculation about President Bush, too, right? Innocent until proven guilty…unless there are political points to be scored. The evidence here is their own words, before it became an issue, common sense (he’d be neglectful in his duty if he didn’t talk about who would replace him with the man that got to pick it) and the story above. No one here is guilty of anything…yet. But it sure doesn’t look good.

  42. December 11, 2008 at 3:47 pm

This just in….it has been discovered that somewhere deep in the SouthWest United States, at a top secret government facility named “Area 51”, the United States government has been hiding alien corpses, and testing their remains and DNA structure.

They have also recovered the wreckage of their space craft, that looks like a frisbee wrapped in tin foil…

it is believed the craft was flying somewhere off the coast of Northern California in the 1970’s when it collided with another smaller aircraft piloted by whom resources say is Amelia Earhardt. Her plane plunged to the water and she was eaten by a giant prehistoric beast only known as “Nessie.” It has not been explained how the create got from the Great Loch Ness to the coast of California…perhaps a pirate ship captained by long rumored pirate Captain Jack Sparrow…

More as I can dig it up… Feel free to repost all of this on your blogs, as I believe it is the truth and will be discovered by the two top detectives hired from the Chicago Crime Fighting duo known as the “Blues Brothers.”

    Peace out!

    Obama’s Blagojevich story is crumbling.
Obama insisted that none of his staff had a part in the attempted selling of his Senate seat by Gov. Blagojevich. “I have never spoken with the governor on this subject. I am confident that no representative of mine would have any part in any deals related to this seat,” Obama said. It appears that Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, has been talking to Blagojevich. The details of those discussions are not yet known.

Unlike liberals, we aren’t flying monkeys looking to “prominent” people for our marching orders, we think for ourselves. By your logic, since you want to give McCain, a Republican, not a conservative, credibility on this issue, he therefore has credibility on everything. The war, Social Security, etc, right? You going to follow him on those? We’re betting no. We didn’t accuse Obama of a crime, we accused him of lying. The record clearly shows he lied, therefore he’s not the “change” agent he pretended to be, he’s a typical politician. What’s worse, he’s one that came out of the corrupt Chicago machine.

  46. 48 Mike88i

I’m not giving McCain credibility with any specific issue—including this one—Politico has done that for us. But I do begin to wonder whether or not it’s time for Republicans to find another issue to knit pick on, considering that popular members of their own party are ready to move on.

More information is coming out on Obama’s Blogojevich contacts
In spite of what the Obama team has told us, the contacts than had with Blagojevich ran deep. The most troubling thing is Obama wanted to maintain a close relationship with Blagojevich even after he was under suspicion. New information has been uncovered through the Freedom of Information act.
