The New York Times – All the “news” that’s fit to misprint.

Funny cuz it's true...sad for the same reason.

Funny cuz it's true...sad for the same reason.

It turns out that “people familiar with the deal” is a good enough source for a smear “story” about John McCain at the formerly supposedly great (or so we’ve heard) New York Times.  Remember the story that implied McCain was having an affair with a lobbyist back in the beginning of this year (we aren’t going to like to it, Google it if you’re really interested) that turned out to have less sources than the Bigfoot body is found story?  That didn’t stop the Times from running it page one, above the fold.

Now we have another story about how McCain campaign manager has been on the take from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for the last few years.  Those same “sources” claim that the former firm of Rick Davis has been cashing in to the tune of $15k per month since 2005.  Only problem is Davis hasn’t worked there since 2006 and hasn’t been a lobbyist since 2005.  He also has zero financial ties to the company. If the McCain Campaign is lying they can be easily caught.

As an aside, it’s nice to see them really punching back at the Times for the shoddy reporting.

Interestingly enough, the story fails to mention that Barack Obama, who has been in the Senate for only 3 years (less than 150 actual in session working days) has already collected more campaign cash than every Senator but one (the lovely and talented Chris Dodd) in the last 10 years from Fannie, not to mention his campaign’s reliance on advisers who made a mint from Fannie and Freddie.  That seems a bit curious, doesn’t it?

This info was not only reported by the Times. Numerous papers have reported on it, as well as news sites with pretty bi-partisan credibility. I find it funny that a campaign is so eager to criticize a news outlet, yet is unwilling to answer questions from it. You seem to think the McCain camp is some squeaky clean group. Maverick(s) my ass.
