Stephen King: Troops is stupid people.

Stephen King is creepier than any of his booksFamed horror writer whose books, at least the horror books, haven’t made a good movie since Pet Cemetery (and that was only because of the Ramones song), though his short stories make good movies, has really stepped in it.  He’s one of these rich liberals who think they know best for everyone else, claim to be caring and understand, tolerant and all that jazz, and maybe he is…just not towards people who join the military.

Speaking to a group of high school students at the Library of Congress, King said this:

“I don’t want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don’t, then you’ve got, the Army, Iraq, I don’t know, something like that. It’s, it’s not as bright. So, that’s my little commercial for that.”

When John Kerry said something similar in 2004 he took a lot of heat, but you could tell he was attempting to make a lame joke, which should surprise no one.  But King isn’t trying to be funny, he’s try to make a point, a point that says people who join the military are stupid and can’t read.  One thing is certain, the people that join the military will not be reading Stephen King books any time soon.

Well he’s right…unfortunately the worst of the worst join the military USUALLY. I mean there are those very few 1%ers who join because their parents can’t afford to send them to college but most of them can’t afford to go to college and couldn’t get out even if they did.

The SAT scores you talk about are an average of EVERYONE…not just the ones in college currently…I’m sure there were people who are in the military now who took the SAT and thought OK this is not for me right after they filled out their name.

Sadly, there are people like yourself who’d like to think otherwise to make the military full of geniuses but it is not…

I would like to say up front that, A)I know this is an old post and B)I am a King fan. However, Mr. King really blew it here. For anyone who hasn’t signed up to join the military (in any form) you have to pass a pretty lengthy test just to get in. It has been about 10 years, so it’s probably evolved since I took it. Also the military used to be an opt out for criminals ie: do 5 years in jail or sign up for 5 years. That however has changed. Apparently the stereo-type just hasn’t died yet. Now, for those of you who think this country got here without even the illiterate giving his life, you might want to pick up a book (non-fiction that is). Even the illiterate deserve our thanks (not scorn) for putting it all on the line. I’m sorry I had to comment on such an old post, but I just couldn’t leave that out there without saying something.

Mr King you an idiot, There are plenty of college graduates in the Military and are advanced with advanced equipment, which requires intelligence. You read and make movies, however, to write books is a pretty boring life, you are only excited in your own mentally ill mind.

There is a 3 hour test called the ASVAB you want might want to take a look at it, you probably wouldnt pass cause usually nerds like yourself dont have common sense.

I also come from a wealthy family and Im proud of what I do, my life is pretty adventurous.

There is plenty civilians that I know are retards.

I have a lot of respect for people (intelligent or not) who do the scary, hard, dirty, dangerous jobs the rest of us haven’t the fortitude for. Some of these people have no choice because of their level of education. I’m sure there are a lot of soldiers who would be just as comfortable resurfacing the roads we drive on…or managing a bank.

So when we no longer have any military because all the soldiers decided they were too intelligent for such work, who will be “stupid” enough to realize that our country needs to be protected? Would YOU have the fortitude and the courage for that?
