Douchebag of the Week – Randi Rhodes

Douchebag of the Week.Randi Rhodes wins this week’s coveted Douchebag of the Week Award, and congratulations to her.  What douchebaggy thing did Randi do, er, what uber-douchebaggy thing did she do since her show was pretty much her being a douchebag for 3 hours?  Well, she displayed the sort of fighting spirit Liberals are famous for – she quit.

She didn’t just quit out of the blue, she resigned because her boss told her to apologize for remarks she made calling Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro “bitches” and “whores.”  Yes, she’s a real charmer like that.

Rhodes became a victim of the same PC police that the Left has sicked on conservatives for years, and it’s a wonderful thing.

What makes Rhodes a douchebag is that all she had to do was apologize.  Why get so pissy about Hillary and Geraldine?  Is THAT really the line in the sand that someone wants to draw?  Then she goes on Larry King and plays the paranoid conspiracy card, saying that Air America wanted to change her contract and that’s what this is all about.

No, this is about you saying something stupid, which is nothing new, but finally you said it about someone half your listener base supports, something that could harm your employer’s bottom line (in the case of Air America, it could dig the hole a little deeper) and you refusing to recognize that you work for a business that, no matter how much you hate the concept (even though you were well paid) needs to make money.

Randi Rhodes, you are a Douchebag!  In a few weeks people find this post and wonder who you are, and while you won’t be gamefully employed anywhere it could possibly matter, you can always say you were April 2008’s second Douchebag of the Week.

How is it that Randi was not Douchebag of the Week the week she said it? And how is it that she summed up what conservatives have said for years, while liberals defended Hillary? And now true conservatives and liberals agree? How is it that First Friday spends hours going after the Clinton’s without such precisoin? Ya guys are slacking! As far as Air America, if you subscribe to Arbitron, and understand the markets, read the ratings (which I know one of you does not), you would see Randi knocked Rush the fuck out in numerous markets. AAR has long had failed management at the helm…shhh…it’s a secret. What you witness in Randi’s departure is a growth for Progressive talk, as she landed at Nova M Radio quicker than ATR and Heritage Foundation refugees find themselves at AEI OR JUST FORGETTIN BOUT IT AT Union Pub. Randi, Jim Hightower, Peter Werbe, Mike Malloy and close freinds have given all of you fits for years. READ! For Christ’s sake! Read! I know you all work for well studied people, some who I disagree with, but we can agree on this…facts are facts, tune in to Randi @ novamradio.com
it’s not a conspiracy, Nova M Radio is alive, created by the same folk that created your little nemesis AAR. For credibilty, sign up for Arbitron. You look stupid. First Friday!!!! Douchebags of the…er, Liars and cheats of the week!!!

ps, now you get Richard Belzer too.

    Eh. Feh. Harrumph.

In the final analysis, couldn’t we boil this down to a simple litmus test? If you say or do something that would get any non-celebrity, non-athlete, non-politician fired inside of two eyeblinks, then perhaps you ought to be shown to the door w/o preamble.

It’s not about free speech, you have that on any streetcorner for the most part (although things are admittedly changing everywhere as the Nanny State encroaches). You get to be as much of an ass as you like on your own time. But on the airwaves, or in public while working, then you have agreed to be held to a different standard, that of the person who pays you to do your job.

My vote? Both a douchebag and not (hereinafter referred to as a “DB”). A DB embarasses their company or boss despite the unspoken agreement we all buy in to when we take a job, which is to present ourselves with professionalism. Not a DB by sticking to what you believe even if it means leaving. Then a DB again by standing up and justifying your DB status on the air again and acting like a victim.

And here I may draw flames, but into the breach,I always say… Air America is superfluous – we already have NPR to spread unchecked bias around with wild abandon.

When she said it someone was douchebaggier. It’s a 7 day window, Douchebag of the WEEK, get it?
Yes, Air America is so successful that, just like every other successful company, it constantly needs to be bailed out by billionaires and “reorganize.” Most successful companies need to skip a pay period or two for their employees. Thanks for clearing that up.

I think the pendulum will at some point start to swing the other way, but only if they start letting true market competition thrive. People are indeed tired of the status quo but only if they aren’t in that rarefied strata. If corporate leadership didn’t have secondary golden parachutes (bailouts) from the government then it’s a good bet that salaries and “shareholder profit margins” would have to come in line with reality. I can’t understand how floundering companies can get away with upper management bonuses that rival the GDP of small countries and still get handouts.

And that is a wonderful new word (to me at least) – let it roll off the tongue and then savor it a moment: douchebaggier

Sounds similar to chocolatier yet… different.
