Obama riding the fence on the “pastor” issue.

Senator Barack Obama was on Fox News last night, and presumably elsewhere, claiming to be shocked to find out there was gambling going in Rick’s Casino, er, that his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, was spewing anti-American and racist bile from the pulpit.  He claimed that he had never heard the hatred Wright screamed because when Obama was there it was all good stuff, sweetness and light, that the preacher preached.  If you believe that man who blames the US for 9/11, spews racism like the father in A Christmas Story spewed curses would, magically, just be so sweet and preach love of everyone over 20 years coincidentally when Barack and Michelle Obama happened to be there, then we have a bridge to sell you.

Today in Indiana, Obama tried again to duck the issue, since he really can’t explain it away now that he said he would’ve quit the church if he’d heard Wright (who he just now had leave his campaign), by decrying all the whole affair and racism in general.  Well Senator, we’re there with you on the racism sucks bit, always will be, but saying something like this about Jeremiah Wright, “If all I knew were those statements I saw on television, I would be shocked,” just ain’t enough.

Yes, he’s your friend, and we all have friends who are embarrassing, who say the wrong things, offensive things, have no social skills, etc., we get it, but saying there’s more to him than the anti-Americanism and racism he throws around like pennies into a wishing well is like saying, “Yeah, Stalin is a bit of a murderer, but he’s got a lovely singing voice.”

You’re running for President of the United States, you can’t tolerate this sort of talk from someone, anyone, you consider a close confidant.  And don’t buy into the hype that McCain and jackhole preachers he’s associated with, too, so he should say something, too.  That won’t fly.  McCain accepted their endorsement, said nice things about them when they did so, he didn’t spend 20 years learning from them.

You can’t play the “Well, what about them” card here, you’ve got to man up and blast Jeremiah Wright for the things any average American would blast him for.  Anything short of that and this will ruin your chances of being reelected to the Senate, let along elected President.
