More praise for President Bush from the entertainment industry.

“You should totally surrender, Mr. President. It’s the only way.”

Bob Geldof, often described as a musician (though can you name any of his music?) but more frequently noted as a humanitarian for his work fighting AIDS and poverty in Africa, has praised President George W. Bush for his work in fighting AIDS in Africa

Geldof said Bush “has done more than any other president so far” in the fight against AIDS in Africa.  Then he blasted the media coverage of Mr. Bush’s actions:

Mr. Geldof said that the president has failed “to articulate this to Americans” but said he is also “pissed off” at the press for their failure to report on this good news story.

“You guys didn’t pay attention,” Geldof said to a group of reporters from all the major newspapers.

This is not the first praise President Bush has received from the entertainment world, in 2003 Richard Gere praised the work Bush has done on fighting AIDS and blasted President Clinton, tell Senator Clinton: “I’m sorry, Sen. [Hillary] Clinton, but your husband did nothing about AIDS for eight years.”

This, naturally, didn’t sit well with the Former President who seems to look back upon his 8 years as President as some sort of Eden.  This is from the CNN story on topic:

When asked to respond to Gere’s statement last week that he did nothing to fight AIDS during his eight years in office, Clinton said, “I think that’s the silliest question I ever heard, and I don’t blame Richard Gere, because he’s an actor. He doesn’t know.”

Interesting how when an actor speaks out against Clinton, “he’s an actor.  He doesn’t know.” is said by the Clintons, but when millions of dollars come rolling in and public appearances are made with “actors,” the Clintons don’t frame that praise as coming from someone who doesn’t know.

*In the above picture we see President Clinton meeting with famed foreign policy expert Barbara Streisand.

Now that’s meaningful. Failure to report this good story? Seems to be a lot of that going on with the media. After all, it really isn’t fair old GW doesn’t get the good coverage he deserves. Remind of me of what that coverage is again.
