Does it mean anything if you’re forced to apologize?

My boss tells me I'm sorry.Chris Matthews, forced into by his bosses, has apologized to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for saying the only reason she was in elected office was because her husband screwed around on her.

Being forced to say you’re sorry is about as sincere as saying, “I’m sorry you were offended.”  That’s not an apology, that’s a cop-out.  However, since we’re fans of the Constitution, we support his First Amendment right to say whatever he wants, even if it offends someone.  You don’t like, turn the channel.

The oddest part was that it wasn’t a direct complaint from Hillary herself, it was the National Organization for Women that was bitching about it.  They listed that comment and others that, they say, were mean about Hillary in a letter to Matthews’ boss.

How can someone be offended by proxy?  Such is the society in which we live nowadays…Though we suspect back room coordination going on here, which would be illegal.  And we aren’t going to apologize for thinking it.
