The headline says it all, the UN summit on climate change is going to release as much carbon into the atmosphere as 20,000 cars do in a year.
Why? Because they’re holding it on the other side of the planet in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Conference participants claim they will “offset” their pollution by purchasing carbon credits or planting trees. Can you believe the hypocrisy of this?
“It’s very hard for the public to understand that you come together with so many people to a very distant place and cause a lot of emissions, and at the same time talk about emission reductions,” Artur Runge-Metzger, head of climate strategy for the European Commission, said yesterday in an interview in Bali, adding that he had offset his own emissions.
The most damaging emissions to the world by these people come from their mouths, from what they say and what they advocate.
If these bureaucrats were really concerned about the global warming, why wouldn’t they conduct the conference via Internet? Video conferencing doesn’t allow you to take a private jet half way around the world.
