NBC getting out of the news business, going to stay in the reporting business.

Pluck off!

Word is the NBC is going to cut between $20 to $40 million from the budget of their news division in an attempt to save the failing department.  While there is no doubt that there is fat in NBC News (which includes MSNBC and CNBC), is there really that much?

This isn’t the on air “talent” we’re talking about like Keith Olbermann, who draws in less viewer than a city council debate on public access, these are the news gatherers, the people who actually go out and get the information.  This means that NBC News will now rely more heavily on other news outlets like the Associated Press or Al Jazeera.

The Peacock is slowly being plucked to death and no one seems to care, outside of those who will lose their jobs.  Though NBC President Jeff Zucker thinks so many employees are not needed to do just as good of a job as NBC News has been doing.  We agree, though only because we can’t imagine them doing any worse.
