Earth to the Liberal blogosphere—McCain’s plagiarism borrowed from……himself. Oops.

Great piece by Dean Barnett in the Weekly Standard on the liberals who jumped the gun in alleging McCain had lifted from an admiral’s speech back in 1996.  Turns out the admiral had lifted from a McCain speech in 1995!Other insights on the Obama campaign in here as well…

Obama puts money where Jeremiah Wright’s mouth is.

Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright.

Obama’s church has come into considerable notoriety based on the controversial remarks made by it’s recently retired minister, Reverend Wright. Since the disclosing of rabid sermons that have enraged many Americans, Obama has sought to calm the winds by attempting to justify Wright’s sermons based on his experiences. Obama has clarified that he does not agree with what the Reverend said. Obama has even gone so far as to suggest he might have left the church had Rev. Wright stayed on.

Obama is certainly putting the verbal spacing between the two. His words will have to speak much louder than what his money says.

While Obama was pondering leaving the church, he donated $22,500 to it in 2006. Not quite chump change. Most people are not in the practice of donating heavily to organizations that have speakers they do not agree with. That said, Obama should receive credit for his public disclosure of his tax returns; clarity is important when considering national leaders. Even if it raises questions about affiliations with strange ministers.

Markets Should Determine Credit Card Fees, Not Politicians.

The government wants in your wallet even deeper. The Wall Street Journal appropriately savages two members of Congress for trying to interfere with market forces in the credit card industry. The editorial explains that some retailers don’t like paying fees to credit card companies, but then points out that retailers don’t have to accept credit cards if they think the 2 percent fee is too high.

The politicians should be condemned for their potentially destructive legislation, but the businesses lobbying for price controls on fees deserve greater scorn. Unlike politicians, who instinctively seek to undermine freedom, the retailers should know better than to support government intervention in the private economy.

Obama continues to lie.

Barack Obama points to the one person he has yet to lie to…

You have to love it when a politician gets caught in a lie because before they’re busted you know they’re doing it but proving it is difficult.  Once you get proof, then the fun begins.  Their supporters do all sorts of contortions to justify or explain why it’s not a lie and the candidate tries to avoid the press so they’re aren’t asked about it.  Since this is Barack Obama and the press is so deeply in his camp, don’t expect many news outlets to pick up on this, but be aware of it anyway.  It goes to character.

Late last year, in response to a Politico story about Obama’s answers to the original questionnaire, his aides said he “never saw or approved” the questionnaire.

They asserted the responses were filled out by a campaign aide who “unintentionally mischaracterize(d) his position.”

But a Politico examination determined that Obama was actually interviewed about the issues on the questionnaire by the liberal Chicago non-profit group that issued it. And it found that Obama – the day after sitting for the interview – filed an amended version of the questionnaire, which appears to contain Obama’s own handwritten notes adding to one answer.

Basically, Obama’s campaign has denied he’s an extreme leftist, portraying him as a “uniter” and centrist.  Since there is no record upon which to base this claim and all the evidence points to the opposite being true, the media has ignored it.  Slowly, even they will have to come to terms with the fact that they are going to have to look at their savior with some sort of skeptical eye if they are to maintain any of their limited credibility.  Seems like Politico might start doing that.  If there’s one thing that can turn a media out let against you it’s lying to them.

Obama begins to lie

You will do what he says and not look at what he does!

Obama on the campaign trail has repeatedly called for a change in the way Washington does business.  It seems he is not the one to be able to deliver that change as he begins to lie about Senator McCain’s positions.

As Charles Krauthammer explains, McCain’s “100 years” comment has been grossly misquoted and interpreted.  McCain said troops could stay in Iraq for 100 years so long as they are not in harm’s way.

Obama, who has complained that people have only heard 30 second sound bites of Rev. Wright’s speeches, has this to say of Senator McCain’s foreign policy:

– “He (McCain) says that he is willing to send our troops into another 100 years of war in Iraq” (Barack Obama, Feb. 19).

– “We are bogged down in a war that John McCain now suggests might go on for another 100 years” (Obama, Feb. 26).

It would seem rather hypocritical of Obama on one hand to complain about a twisted sound bite, and then use a twisted sound bite to malign his opponent.  That seems to be, as they say, business as usual in Washington.

Does this mean Obama will vote for who he considers honorable, if it is not himself?

Senator McCain actually has generally operated in an honorable way” – Barack Obama, 3/20/08.

Douchebag of the Week – The United Nations

Douchebag of the Week!Surprisingly the United Nations had not yet won the coveted Douchebag of the Week award before today, though it has not been for a lack of trying, there have just been so many worthy nominees that the UN has not risen to the level needed to win…until now.

Need proof that the UN has no ability to learn from past mistakes and is an anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-freedom socialist organization?  Remember when they appointed Sudan to the Human Rights Commission?  An nation that is still practicing slavery having a say over complaints on human rights abuses should have tipped even the most Utopian liberal, but hypocrisy never seems to bother them.

That is why the UN elected Jean Ziegler to be a member of their “advisory committee” to the UN’s Human Rights Council.  What wrong with Ziegler?  Aside from his support and praise for Fidel Castro, Robert Mugabe, Kim Il-Sung and nearly every other left-wing dictator you can imagine, he’s also praised a well-known French Holocaust denier as “one of the leading thinkers of our time.”

Clearly Ziegler is much more interested in advancing an anti-freedom agenda than he is human rights, which will mean he will fit in quite nicely at the United Nations.  It also means he’s a complete douchebag on monumental scale.

But since he didn’t choose himself to join a committee that is the antithesis of everything he stands for, he was chosen by bureaucrats at the UN, it is they, not he, who wins the prestigious Douchebag of the Week Award.  Your tax dollars hard at work.

It pays well the preach to the poor – Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama’s pastor, is building a $1.6 million house.

Obama and Wright, two rich guys.Jeremiah Wright, the misunderstood lover of all according to Barack Obama, has made his career and name by preaching to the poor about the virtues of God (not to mention all the other garbage…) apparently made a pretty good living doing so.  He’s not talking about it, and the mainstream media isn’t interested in looking into anything that would make their candidate look good, but Fox News did and uncovered the truth of the matter.  He’s building himself a $1.6 million, 10,000+ square feet retirement home.  Hate pays, or so it would seem.  Must be nice.

Obama won’t be talking about it, and probably won’t be asked, but it’s pretty interesting that someone who grew up pretty well off would spend his life preaching to the poor about how bad they’ve got it, then take their money and build himself a mansion in a gated community the suburbs and only one news outlet even batted and eye, to borrow a phrase from the good reverend.  Perhaps his chickens are coming home…

Howard Dean makes an attempt to act like Chairman of the DNC, but changes the rules in the middle of the game.

Mr. Happy, Coward Dean, er, Howard Dean.Coward Dean, er, Howard Dean, Chairman of the DNC, seen most frequently on the side of milk cartons thanks to his lack of leadership, it attempting to grow a pair and act like a leader.  The operative word in that sentence is “act” since he has as much spine as cooked spaghetti.  He is now saying he wants the superdelegates, the unelected party officials and super donors/fundraisers, to make up their minds by July 1 as to whom they are going to support so they can get a nominee.  This is new and is akin to changing the rules in the middle of the game.

As if the superdelegate concept wasn’t fascist enough, to change the rules at this late date is typical of the left, they don’t like things that they don’t have control over.

Dean should just come out and endorse Barack Obama because that’s  what this amounts to by shaving time off the clock for Hillary Clinton to make her case to superdelegates.  As screwed up as their system is, that’s their system.  To change the rules now is, well, typical.

Democrats took Saddam Hussein’s money for a trip to Iraq, no wonder they opposed action.

McDermott and Bonior relaying their orders from Saddam.

Congressman Jim McDermott, Mike Thompson and former Congressman David Bonior, got a free trip to Iraq paid for by Saddam as a PR stunt.

Naturally these guys now claim not to have known about the corrupt bargain, but it is telling about the mind-set of certain Democrats who would rather associate themselves with some of the worst people the human race has to offer rather than their own country men.

The only way they couldn’t have known or at least suspect is if they willfully chose to be ignorant on the subject.

Hillary Clinton fund raiser may violate the law.

He likes Hillary, but only as a friend and President.

There’s a story today in the Washington Times about something we told you abouta while ago, the Elton John fund-raising concert for Hillary Clinton.

Whether or not it breaks the law is still up in the air, but even if it is legal it sure doesn’t look good…

The 22 percent solution – Democrats are starting to hate each other.

Rasmussen is reporting that 22 percent of Democrats think Hillary should drop out while 22 percent of Democrats think Obama should drop out.  What’s amazing is that those are the numbers even though the media seems to be actively campaigning for Obama.  They would like nothing more than Hillary to drop out, even going to far as to say she CAN’T win without the superdelegates.  Well, Obama CAN’T win either without the superdelegates.

The Democrats are at war and neither side can win without using undemocratic methods.

Global Warming myth strikes Facebook with feel good garbage.

Turn on your lights to fight global warming myth.

Got the email below from Facebook today.  Seems they’re going to shut off their lights for an hour Saturday night.  What heroes of the planet!  How many people do you suspect are working at Facebook from 8-9 pm on a Saturday night?  Bob the janitor of Fred the engineer?  This is straight-up feel good crap that will do absolutely nothing.  Who the hell is surfing Facebook on a Saturday night, anyway?  Why not shut the site down completely for an hour?  Well, because that would cut into their revenues.

Leave all your lights on the Saturday night between 8-9 pm just to counter this stupidity.  Global warming is not caused by human activity, the extent to which our planet is warming or cool has to do with that big ball of fire in the sky, the sun.

Here’s the email:

Where I’ve Been is supporting this year’s 2008 World Wildlife Fund Earth Hour! What is Earth Hour? Click here for detailed information.

This Saturday we are shutting off all of our lights from 8-9pm!

Why are we doing this?
If all Where I’ve Been users turns off their lights for one hour, we can reduce this year’s carbon footprint by approximately 22,290,910 pounds. That’s equivalent to saving 400,000 trees or preventing 8.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. WOW!!!

What can you do?
Turn off your lights!

Last year 2.2 million people shut off their lights for one hour to show their awareness towards global warming. If we can help to spread the awareness, we can become a part of a great cause that will help to preserve the earth!

Join Where I’ve Been in this Earth-saving crusade by visiting our page and signing up!

Let’s help fight global warming together and keep our Earth a spectacular place to travel!

An Obama Presidency Would Lead To A Weak National Defense

In a world that is at least as dangerous as the world was during the Cold War, can our security afford a President Obama?

With the rapidly approaching emergence of China as a Superpower, the failing democracy in Russia, terrorism, instability in South America, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, the threat of rogue missile attacks and dirty bombs among the list of possible threats to the U.S., is now the time to dismantle our military?

Barack Obama thinks so – have a listen:

Supreme Court Sides with U.S. Constitution, Rejects Interference from So-Called International Court of Justice.

They can get some things right in the Supreme Court, who knew?

In a major victory for American legal sovereignty, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that American states are not bound by the meddlesome and politicized rulings of the International Court of Justice. The decision also slapped the hands of the Bush Administration, which wanted to sidestep the legislative process and unilaterally order states to comply with treaty obligations.

The Wall Street Journal explains here.

Senator Carl Levin’s War on Taxpayers.

The government wants your money, just give it to them.

In a remarkable display of chutzpah, Senator Carl Levin of Michigan is quoted in the Christian Science Monitor stating that “Tax havens have declared war on honest taxpayers.” This is from a politician who routintely votes for higher taxes has a rating of “F” from the National Taxpayers Union because he votes against taxpayers 85 percent of the time – a record that puts him below Senators Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.

Tax havens, by contrast, have helped taxpayers by forcing governments around the world to lower tax rates. Indeed, a prominent British accountant explains in the story that low tax rates are the appropriate way to deal with global competition. Returning to the them of chutzpah, an OECD bureaucrat (who receives a tax-free salary!) actually admits that people should have a right to financial privacy – but only if the term is stripped of all meaning by giving governments unlimited snooping rights:

“Tax havens have declared war on honest taxpayers,” says US Sen. Carl Levin (D) of Michigan, who along with Sen. Barack Obama (D) of Illinois is co-sponsoring the “Stop the Tax Haven Act,” introduced last year. …Chas Roy-Chowdhury, head of taxation at Britain’s Association of Chartered Certified Accountants…says… “Governments should open themselves up to the wind of global competition and accept that they need to run efficiently to keep tax rates low.” …Perez-Navarro [of the OECD] adds that individuals should have the right to a certain banking confidentiality, but that when investigators want to see numbers they should be handed over.”

3,000 monitors say Earth is cooling, media says nothing.

Global Warming Jelly - Because we’re all screwed by this myth.

The media cared, once. The New York Times reported in the year 2000 about the deployment of about 3,000 oceanic probes.

When the probes reported back that the climate is a complicated issue, and the Earth has shown slight cooling, the NYT turned the other cheek.

These probes are scattered around the world in the oceans sampling temperature and salinity. Over the 8 years these probes have been deployed, NASA scientists say they show a slight cooling. Not constant temperatures, or even growing temperatures; it shows cooling temperatures.

These facts pose a large problem for alarmists. They’ll find a way to fabricate stories and spin the facts so they can keep swindling people into buying carbon credits.

Science is more complicated than Al Gore claims it is; the science should be discussed truthfully and in an open manner before the U.S. destroys it’s economy over a myth.

Dictator Hugo Chavez supports Democrats – Shocking!

Hugo and Fidel - Yeah, they totally do it.

In the most shocking turn of events since the sun came up in the east this morning, Hugo Chavez said that US-Venezuelan relations could worsen if John McCain is elected President.  Chavez, the hero of Hollywood, said, “McCain also seems to be a man of war,” while amassing his troops on the border with Colombia in defence of the terrorists attacking Colombian civilians.

Hugo Chavez is a dictator who oppresses his people and wants to consolidate all power in the government, is it really a shock that Hollywood supports him and he supports Democrats?

Kudos to Chelsea Clinton for her answer to the Monica question.

Kudos to Chelsea Clinton. We aren’t big fans of the Clintons, there’s no doubt about that, but we give credit when credit is due.  We’ve been critical of Chelsea, and still are, for her refusal to speak to the press, even though she is actively campaigning for her mother, but in Indianapolis yesterday a questioner from the audience (not the press) crossed the line and Chelsea put the guy in his place.  (It’s unclear if he was an Obama supporter, but given the bad blood lately in the Democrat primary it wouldn’t surprise us.)

At a campaign event she was talking with the audience and was asked about her mother’s credibility and whether or not it had been hurt by the Monica Lewinsky scandal.  Chelsea verbally smacked the guy down and took another, final question.

Think what you will of the Clintons and the Monica issue, as was said just a moment ago, we do, but Chelsea isn’t the person to ask.  She is not responsible for her father’s irresponsibility and there’s no point in pouring salt on that wound with her.  Policy questions, yes, absolutely, but not personal questions about her parents marriage.

We don’t ofter fret about “the line” but that definitely crosses it.

First Cheney & Now Bush — Obama’s Family Tree Continues to Grow

BushObama

Christmas 2008 might not be the final chance for President Bush to celebrate Christmas with his family in the White House.  If Senator Obama is victorious in November and he decides to host his family for a special Christmas on the occasion of their first White House Christmas, President Bush just might get an invite if he extends to invite to all of his living family

According to the New England Historic Genealogical Society, President Bush and Senator Obama are 10th cousins, once removed, linked by Samuel Hinkley of Cape Cod, who died in 1662.

Who are McCain, Obama and Clinton related to?

 McCain

  • Laura Bush

 Obama

  • Brad Pitt
  • George W. Bush
  • George H.W. Bush
  • Gerald Ford
  • Lyndon Johnson
  • Harry S. Truman
  • James Madison
  • Dick Cheney
  • Sir Winston Churchill
  • Robert E. Lee

Clinton

  • Angelina Jolie
  • Madonna
  • Celine Dion
  • Alanis Morissette
  • Jack Kerouac
  • Camilla Parker-Bowles, wife of Prince Charles

After reviewing Senator Obama’s list of new found relatives you have to ask yourself if it is Senator Clinton that would be continuing a political dynasty or if her lineage would give her more of an edge with the voters on American Idol than with the voters in November.

Obama Girl, best watched on mute, is back with another tortured (lyrically) song about the “attacks” by Hillary Clinton on her man Barack and how they have to stop.  It really makes you wonder if the first-time voters who are flocking to Obama are really so naive about politics that they think these are real attacks (because they ain’t seen nothing yet) or whether they’re just stupid and will blindly follow someone who uses nice words delivered well but says absolutely nothing.  Anyway, here’s the latest video.

Whatever happened to John Hughes?

The Breakfast Club

There’s a pretty good article in today’s LA Times about John Hughes and his influence over the movies and movie makers of today.  The one thing missing from the piece is anything from Hughes himself, seems he’s disappeared not only from Hollywood but the public view in general.  It’s a shame, Hughes’ movies are great, most of them anyway, which is more than can be said for just about anyone else in the business today.  Maybe he ran out of ideas, or maybe he just said everything he needed to say.  Either way, we’re lucky to have what he did give us.

Scientist: It’s global warming’s fault! What was the question again?

We’re all going to die! Just give me your money first, for some odd reason.

CNN is reporting that, shock of all shocks, ice is melting in the Antarctic.  Seems a giant piece of ice collapsed in the Western section of Antarctica, the part with the volcano, but no need to mention the heat generated by that, and that has sent David Vaughan, a British scientist, in a tizzy at the thought of more government grants.  Vaughan said this was caused by global warming.  Being half a world away, clearly he would be the go-to person on this.

But the story ends with a bit that most humans would find interesting and makes the story seem normal, not odd, at least to anyone whose livelihood is not dependent upon selling global warming to the public.  (It’s almost like these people work on commission.)

The rest of the Connecticut-sized ice shelf is holding on by a narrow beam of thin ice and scientists worry that it too may collapse. Larger, more dramatic ice collapses occurred in 2002 and 1995.  (Emphasis added.)

Hat tip to KH for sending the story.

Liberals only support our troops when they support their surrender agenda – the story of Forest Lake High School.

Vet for Freedom tour

Steve Massey, principal of Forest Lake High School in Minnesota, is either a coward or a typical left-winger who doesn’t want to hear opinions with which he disagrees.

Massey cancelled a scheduled event featuring Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans from the group Vets for Freedom because he said it “was becoming a political event.”  You can read his whole statement here.  Just how it was becoming a political event he didn’t say, probably because it wasn’t.  But that doesn’t mean the hate America first crowd didn’t call the school to complain, which they admitted, and threatened to protest it.  How douchebag Leftists that have nothing to do with the event can make an event too political, especially when they can’t enter the school, remains a mystery.

But Massey had enough and cancelled the event at the last minute, leaving the soldiers, one of whom is a graduate of the school, out in the cold.  They were able to find an alternate venue for their discussion, an American Legion Hall but were worried about getting an audience there.

If you are as disgusted by this complete caving into the Left-Wing radicals as we are, let your opinions be known.  Here’s the contact information for the Forest Lake School District.  Let them know they shouldn’t cave in to pressure from either side when it comes to our military and that the men and women who fight to protect our right to free speech should not be denied theirs.  Be civil, whoever answers the phone didn’t make this decision, just let them know they are wrong.

Head of the IPCC says Earth is cooling, American media ignores it.

Amen!

Recently ABC National Radio (Australia) did an interview with Ms. Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist and Senior Fellow at Melbourne’s Institute of Public Affairs. When asked by ABC radio if the Earth is still warming, Jennifer replied: “No, there has actually been cooling.”

Okay, big freaking deal, right? Another non-warmer versus warmer story, right? Not quite.

When asked if this was controversial, Jennifer further explained her self: “Actually, no. The head of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has actually acknowledged it. He talks about the apparent plateau in temperatures so far this century. So he recognizes that in this century, over the past eight years, temperatures have plateaued …”

He said that, did he?

It’s a sheer wonder the media has never picked up on this. Then again, they and their hero Al Gore have invested too much in the lie for the truth to get in the way of their agenda now.

Book Review – Upstream: The Ascendance of American Conservatism

upstreamcover_finalhp.jpg

If you are a conservative, Upstream: The Ascendance of American Conservatism is a must read!!  Alfred Regnery has presented a complete and well organized history of the ascendance of conservatism in America that is informative and entertaining to read.

Regnery’s book follows the intellectual and political climb of conservatism from all angles.  He discusses the issues, people, and events that have lead to America moving from a center-left nation to a center-right nation.

As the benefits and legacy of Ronald Reagan’s conservative movement begin to fade into the pages of history it is time for a new generation of conservatives to take the torch he held so high and write the next chapter of conservatism.  Regnery has given us, the next generation of conservatives, a primer on how to write that chapter.

Upstream is a must read for all conservatives.

Barney Frank wants to legalize Pot, where is the outrage from the Left?

It’s just a cigar, not a blunt.

Liberals in this country cry outrage every time the President or a Republican attempts to address an issue that they deem unimportant, usually by claiming something like “We’re at war!  Aren’t there more important things to be doing?” or some such garbage.  These are people who assume and want the government to run damn near everything, yet they get outraged when someone on the opposite side of them multi-tasks.

Well, Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), hero to liberals despite his own little prostitute problem (though his was way before any of the recent ones, so he’s a bit of trend-setter), plans on introducing a bill to legalize possession of “small amounts” of marijuana.  We fully expect that outcry from the Left about how this is distracting from full and complete surrender and abandonment of our troops to start tonight on MSNBC.
