The Global Warming Religion: How can we scare you today?

Trying to scare people into joining the bandwagon of global warming is nothing new, it’s the entire justification for anti-free-market “solutions” that would bring about the end of a great many of the freedoms the political Left despises.  But every once in a while they come up with a new “study” to show how humans are killing the world in the hopes of winning more converts to their religion.  Today is one of those days.

The IPCC isn't even close to this picky when they sign people on to their The IPCC, the group of “thousands of scientists” that shared the Noble Peace Prize with Al Gore (which, oddly enough, includes many bureaucrats with no science background and many scientists who disagree with the hypothesis of human caused global warming, all of which count in the total (don’t you just love the tenacity of the media?)), have come up with another new “study” to show that human pollution (meaning mostly the United States) is poisoning the oceans and will kill a large portion of the creatures that live in there.  We can’t wait for the “Hug a squid” bumper stickers.

First off, and it’s sad that we have to specify this but we know how the other side works, no one supports pollution.  Pollution is not good, but it is being dealt with by the very free-market these zealots loathe.  There’s profit in being cleaner through good public relations, just watch TV for a while and see all the “green” references in commercials.  But none of that matters to the people who resent the economic success of the United States, so they have to come up with something that scares the hell out of you to get you to reject freedom.  So they’re now trying “You’re killing Flipper!”

What’s telling about the story, written by a reporter that has swallowed the myth hook, line, sinker and fishing pole, is the fact that the “study” has a motive.  There is a meeting coming up next month on the myth in Indonesia and, as the story says, the report “is designed to give impetus to the negotiations.”

Silly us, we thought that scientific reports were supposed to speak for themselves, not have agendas behind them.

What do you expect when this is who wrote it (remember the 2,500 scientists myth?):

Drawn up by more than 2,500 of the world’s top scientists and their governments, and agreed last week by representatives of all its national governments.

Don’t worry, we’re sure governments like Venezuela, Iran, North Korea, Cuba and all the rest only have the best interest of the environment in mind and have no ulterior motive for their input.  They’re honest brokers, right?  Hell, even Usama bin Laden mentioned global warming as one of the many evil things the US have unleashed on the world.  He cares more than President Bush about the environment, just not the immediate environment around the people he’s had blown up, which should tell you just a little something about the motives of these people.

Fuck Flipper. If cetaceans have such huge brains and are so intelligent then why don’t they tell us to stop eating them. Once you’ve had a Flipper burger you won’t go back to beef. Remember the great Gary Larsen cartoon at the height of the Free Willie nonsense. It showed a movie house with a line of kids stretching around the block, and the marquee read: “Catch Willie, and make him do tricks.”

You hit the nail on the head for motivation. Politicians are very much into being little Hitlers. They love that control! Also that money rolling in. The more ways they can tax you and control you, the more they are needed. And when they are finally voted out of office, they get an ambassadorship here or a chairman of the board there from all their cronies. You bet they aren’t going to rock any boats.

Why aren’t we allowed to disagree? It’s exactly like I remember the socialists back in the late 70’s, when red was trendy: “You can only speak if you say the same as the rest of us.” Any critical remark was met with something like: “You’re naive.” “You don’t know what you are talking about.” Never a serious on-topic reply, only attacks on a personal level.

One good thing about the global warming scare is that governments are actually exploring alternative sources of energy. Not because they care about the environment, but because there are votes in it.
To me personally, the use of wind power means that there is more fuel around for my big turbocharged car from 1985 which I can afford to drive because I made a killing on wind turbine shares. Ha.
