Hillary is attempting to buy votes…with YOUR money!

Just when you think Democrats running for President can’t sink any lower in their attempt to win support for the candidacy, one of them opens their mouth.

The offender this time is Hillary Clinton, formerly Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Hillary Who can I screw over today and what can I screw them out of?Clinton before that (she changes what she wants to be called more often than Prince).

Hillary wants to give newborns a “baby bond” for $5,000 so they can have some savings and be able to use that cash, yours and ours, for college or a down-payment on a house when they reach 18 years old.

She argued that wealthy people “get to have all kinds of tax incentives to save, but most people can’t afford to do that.”

Here’s an idea, Hillary.  Why not advocate for lower taxes for EVERYONE and less regulation so things don’t cost so much, that way people would be able to SAVE THEIR OWN MONEY instead of having to forfeit so much of it to the government?  How about that?  Get out of people’s way so they can do things for themselves!

Crazy talk, we know, but Hillary’s little “baby bond” plan would cost about $20 billion a year since about 4 million babies are born in this country every year.

This woman, that party is insane and they must be stopped!

Douchebag of the Week

YOU are a Douchebag! This week we had a no-brainer when it came to the coveted DBOTW award, congratulations to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad!

Not only was Ahmadinejad’s bigotry, homophobia and misogyny on full display in Columbia University on Monday (as heard here in the opening minute and a half of this week’s podcast), his lies were spewed from the stage of the worthless United Nations the next day.  And just to ensure a Douchebag of the Week Award landslide victory, Ahmadinejad then traveled to Venezuela to visit his buddy and fellow tyrant Hugo Chavez.

Together, shown here looking like they were about two seconds away from disproving Ahmadinejad’s statement about there being no homosexuals in Iran, they swore to defeat imperialism in all its forms, except presumably in the forms of communism and Islamo-fascism.  Kiss me, you tyranical fool!

Ahmadinejad and Chavez love to portray themselves as heroes of the poor and oppressed, yet they live like kings while their citizens suffer under their crippling economic restrictions and they jail or kill anyone who dare speak out against them.  They are what they claim to despise.

Yet the Associated Press must feel some sympathy for Ahmadinejad because they described his trip to the US this way:

“After being vilified during his U.N. visit this week…”

Does the AP not understand what the word vilified means?

Vilify: To make vicious and defamatory statements about.

For the record, Defamatory: containing defamation; injurious to reputation; slanderous or libelous.

What part of what anyone said about Ahmadinejad does the AP take issue with?  No point in recounting them here, you should know them, but they are true.  Speaking the truth about someone cannot, by definition, be seen as vilifying them.

Anyway, while Chavez is plenty douchey, and the AP deserves and honorable mention for the shoddy (we prefer to think it lazy, but tend to think it exposes their sympathies) reporting, they both have to step aside for this week’s total and complete douchebag: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Congratulations, Mr. Ahmadinejad, you are the Douchebag of the Week!

Joke of the Day

A Taxi driver is stuck in a traffic jam going
into downtown  Chicago.  Nothing is moving north or south.

Suddenly a man knocks on his window.

The driver  rolls down his window and asks,
“What happened, what’s the hold  up?”

“Terrorists have kidnapped Hillary Clinton,
Rosie O’Donnell, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton.

They are asking  for a $10 million ransom.

Otherwise, they are going to douse them with
gasoline and set them on fire.

We are going from car to car,
taking up a collection.”
The driver asks,
“On average, how much  is everyone giving?”

“About a  gallon.”

Looking for something to do? Here are some ideas.

The American Film Renaissance Festival is still going on this weekend with a screening of Indoctrinate U on Friday and a series of shorts by Reason, Bureaucrash and the Institute for Humane Studies Saturday.  Both would be well worth your time to check out, and tickets are going fast, so don’t wait.

On October 13th some very attractive ladies are hosting a fund-raising party for our troops.  The Yellow Ribbons, as seen below, are hosting an event at the City Tavern Club to raise money for one of the best causes out there, so you should make ever effort to attend.

Know of something else happening around town that is worthwhile?  Shoot us the info at contact@itsfirstfriday.com and we’ll see if we can’t help out.

Pelosi: Enforcing laws a bad idea.

We would accuse House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of pandering to a Hispanic audience when she called securing our borders a “terrible idea,” but she has a long track record of not having any interest in respecting the laws of this country, particularly the Constitution.

She then went on to blame everyone under the sun except people who have actually Imagine waking up next to me every morning!broken the law for illegal immigration and the fact that YOUR tax dollars aren’t going to subsidizing illegal aliens attending college.

“It just isn’t fair,” Pelosi said. “Those young people who came to America one way or another … their opportunities are curtailed because of the situation. And it’s not only harmful to them – it’s harmful to the country.”

Illegal immigration is harmful to the country, Madame Speaker.  And the “one way or another” to which you refer could only mean legally or illegally.  Legally is great, we need more of it with the proper checks to make sure we aren’t letting in criminals or terrorists.  The illegally part is not so good and is, in fact, ILLEGAL!

It is no surprise Pelosi is touting the nightmarish DREAM ACT, a bill containing some of the amnesty portions of the failed comprehensive immigration legislation the public shot down just a few weeks ago.

For a party that claims to be fighting for the “people’s will” by doing all it can in an attempt to lose the war on terror, they certainly have no interest in the people’s will on any other issue.  On every domestic policy issue facing the country today they serve their masters, George Soros and his billionaire friends and their socialist agenda.

(As an end note: Is George Soros really a philanthropist?  Does giving money to political causes that advance your personal agenda qualify as such?  Or does what Bill and Melinda Gates do, give money to fund organizations actually on the ground making lives better and helping people help themselves, qualify more?  We don’t think giving money to legalize drugs, weaken national security and impose socialism is “charity.”  He can give all the money he wants to those causes, don’t get us wrong, our issue is with referring to him as though he is some nobleman helping the poor then, in reality, he is advocating a system that hurts the poor and funding organizations that stifle free speech (read: Media Matters).  Just a thought.)

Least Democratic Congress in History

The Republicans on the House Rules Committee have put together a comprehensive report detailing the way the Democrats are completely ignoring any sense of democracy.

As it begins:

Huge bills being rewritten in the middle of the night. Closed rules. Minority amendments rejected again and again. Earmarks automatically included in appropriations bills with no vote or debate. A vote under investigation. Broken voting machines. Repeated abuse of power from the Speaker’s Chair.

These sound an awful lot like Democratic talking points from a year ago. But as the first session of the 110th Congress nears its conclusion, it’s the new Majority that’s having to answer for their abuses of power.

The detail in the report is great and well worth a read.  So many of our First Friday Friends are over on the House side. We now know a little of what you’ve been going through.

For example, “Members have had an average of 1.4 business days to review legislation”.  One and a half days?  No wonder this Congress is doing nothing.  They have no idea what in the bills.  Even Barney Frank is fed up:

“‘The one thing I hate more than Republicans being obstreperous is when they are being obstreperous and they are right,’ said Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee which is managing the bill. ‘And this time they are right.’

How offensive do Democrats have to be to get reprimanded by one of the most liberal members of Congress?  Appalling.

Sad news today

We’ve just learned that John Berthoud, President of the National Taxpayers Union, passed away suddenly late last night.  John was a good man and good ally in the movement.  We ran into him last night at the Call of the Entrepreneur premiere and he had his usual smile on his face and was as friendly as always.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends…

When will Americans wake up and realize they’re being swindled on “climate change?”

As we’ve said before, global warming is a myth, a lie created to impose the agenda of the extreme left on this nation that they could otherwise never get passed in the electoral process.  In fact, the term “global warming” is no longer being used by environmental socialists, mostly because the globe isn’t warming, winter still happens and the hottest years on record in the last 100 years were in the 1930’s.

So no, “global warming” won’t do any more, but the angle of using an impending, un-provable environmental disaster as a way to impose their political agenda is simply too Totally!good, and it’s too late to say we’ve avoided disaster, lest they expose themselves as the frauds they are.  So global warming became climate change, and snow storms and cold snaps could now be blamed on human activity too.  The media certainly isn’t going to look into this inconsistency, so their lie was safe and the agenda still hidden.

Enter Congress, more specifically Congressman John Dingle.  Dingle represents Dearborn, Michigan, amongst other cities, home of the Ford Motor Company, and has been working on a bill to address climate change that, naturally, wouldn’t address the main culprit behind killing us all, if these extremists are to be believe, the auto industry.

Since human beings have nothing to do with the natural evolution of the Earth, aside from riding on it, Dingle’s proposals will be welcomed with open arms because they tax the hell out of everyone.  What does paying punishing taxes have to do with CO2 levels?  Nothing, really.

It was once thought that higher gas prices would mean people would drive less, but the last few years have proven that theory incorrect.  So, with that in mind, Dingle seeks to ad .50 cents in new taxes to a gallon of gas, as part of his proposal.  Lovely!  That won’t be regressive and hurt the poor at all.

Then he wants to attack people with big houses by stripping them of the mortgage interest deduction credit if their house is too big, as determined by him.

While still called a “discussion draft” and not a bill, look for these ideas to make their way into the normal talking points of the left, then into a bill.

If, however, this myth were real and as big a problem as advocates claim, they would be calling for the destruction of the auto industry, not simply higher taxes.  If the car is going to kill us, really kill us, why wouldn’t they be calling for its abolition?  Hybrids would simply slow the process of our death, so they aren’t the answer.  And Al Gore would not be private jetting around the globe making serious bank telling people about the evils of cars, factories and people private jetting around the globe for reasons other than to make serious bank telling people those things.

But since it’s not true, there is no reason to stop these things, to say those things, to live differently, to make an Herculean effort to change the world to eliminate human CO2 emissions to save all of mankind.  Since it’s not true but it is believed, they will simply use it as an opportunity to gain more control over our daily lives, and to take more of our money and use it for programs never envisioned by our Founding Father and strictly forbidden by our Constitution (read the 10th Amendment).

And most of us will go along because we have been willingly misinformed by the media and/or are too lazy to question conventional wisdom and seek the truth ourselves.

See you at the pump.

What’s worth doing tonight? Well, this stuff.

There are two happenings tonight and both sound like a lot of fun.  Try to do both, if you can make it.

First, there is happy hour sponsored by Politico on the roof deck at Charlie Palmer’s at 101 Constitution starting at 5:00 and lasting till 9:00.  How do you get in?  Click here to read the Facebook event info for all the details you need.

Second, there is another movie tonight, and this one looks pretty interesting.  The movie is called Weirdsville and it is premiering at the Georgetown Loews Theater at 7:00.  If you are thinking that you have to choose between seeing this movie and embracing your alcoholism with Politico, fear not.  America’s Future Foundation’s AFF Underground is having a happy hour after the movie at Blue Gin, so you can to still get blotto after getting your movie on.  All the information you need is located here on the Facebook event page.

And, as always, we invite you to join our Facebook group here, but to be honest we don’t really use it for anything other than a place to post pictures and you get more information from the blog anyway.  But that might change, and people join some pretty worthless groups on Facebook, so why not join ours?

Hillary’s latest pander to the extreme left is a dangerous one

Hillary Clinton was under attack, somewhat, in last night’s debate from her opponents on any number of issues.  Perhaps the rest of the field is now realizing that they are losing to her and time is only getting shorter, we don’t know.  But whatever the reason, she was forced to defend herself more than she has thus far in the campaign.  I'm going to grow up and fight to ruin this country.

On one important issue Clinton contradicted her husband’s policy and, as it turns out, herself as well, in an attempt to appease the moron.org, er, moveon.org crowd.  In the process she committed herself to a policy that would make every one of us less safe.

If President Hillary Clinton’s administration captured a terrorist with knowledge of an imminent attack, the location of several bombs that were set to go off today sometime, she would not use torture in an attempt to get information as to where the bombs were located out of them.  Unfortunately for Clinton, while this makes those who want us to lose the war on terror, otherwise known as the Democrat’s base, she contradicted herself on this very issue from just a year ago.

The New York Daily News has a nice story that sums up her flip-flop quite well, check it out here.

In fact, given how far to the left the entire Democratic field has gone to make their extremists happy, they probably wouldn’t even question them until a lawyer showed up, with the exception of Dennis Kucinich who would pay the terrorist some sort of reparations and send him on his way without arrest.

These people are not to be taken seriously because they refuse to take the biggest threat to the United States seriously.  Instead, they waste time attacking Rudy Giuliani for refusing to take military action off the table as an option in stopping Iran from going nuclear.  The Democrats all said they would do everything necessary to stop Iran, as long as everything involved only talking to them and asking them nicely to stop.  That worked really well with North Korea!  Thanks, President Clinton.

It seems as though the only thing Democrats ARE willing to fight for are socialist ideals that have no basis in our Constitution, but they aren’t willing to fight to change the Constitution, just fight in the courts.  They’re brave that way.

George Soros: The man, the myth, the tyrant. Movon.org: the lapdog to the man who would be czar.

Investor’s Business Daily has a great series on George Soros and Moveon.org that details what they’re up to and why.  This is the kind of reporting major newspaperPower hungry jackasss like the New York Times used to do, but since there seems to be sympathy, if not downright solidarity with the intentions and goals of Soros and Moveon.org at the Times these days, and at the “major networks,” they give him and them a pass on any investigation of motives and money.

But IBD is doing it, and doing a great job of it.  Here is the series so far.

Democracy: George Soros is known for funding groups such as MoveOn.org that seek to manipulate public opinion. So why is the billionaire’s backing of what he believes in problematic? In a word: transparency.

The Left: The smear ad published against Gen. Petraeus has drawn attention to its sponsor, MoveOn.org. But the fingerprints of the group’s chief financial backer, George Soros, were all over it. Who is this man and what is he up to?

Election 2008: MoveOn.org once crowed that it had bought and owned the Democratic Party. With the Senate now blasting its tactics, that’s an open question. But not, apparently, for Democrats running for president.

As the series continues we will update this page, but you can follow it here.

Chelsea Clinton is off limits! But please, make fun of the Bush twins.

Former President Bill Clinton is mad!  No, another woman didn’t hold a garment back from the dry cleaners, he’s not that mad.  He’s mad that someone took a picture of his daughter and is displaying it in their restaurant with other photos of famous people who have eaten there.

While Chelsea is not famous for anything she has done, aside from being the closest thing to proof of a physical relationship at one point between her parents, she is a well-known person because of her parents.  Not only because of who they are, but because they have both used her in their political campaigns, both by having her on stage and in referring to her every chance they get.

While there’s nothing wrong with what the Clintons have done with Chelsea, there’s nothing private either.  But, in typical Clinton style, they don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Bill Clinton, undoubtedly in conjunction with Hillary Clinton’s campaign, has sent a letter to Osso Buco, and Italian eatery in Greenwich Village, demanding they remove the picture of owner Nino Selimaj and the Clinton child or else he may take legal action.

In the letter, that you can read here, Mr. Clinton’s lawyer says, “As you know, Ms. Clinton, a private citizen, was not consulted prior to this picture being displayed, and thus, her permission was not given for you to do so.”

What? This thing I pointing at you will take your picture, so be aware that I will have your picture, own that picture and do with it what I please. Duh!

As you can clearly see in the picture, it is posed for, not a candid snap of her stuffing her face.  If she’s as intelligent as the Clintons would have us believe (intelligent enough to land a six-figure job without her family connections *cough, cough*) then there is no way humanly possible she could not have known the picture was being taken and it would most likely be displayed in the Osso Buca along with the countless other “celebrity” photos.

But, since Chelsea is a “private citizen” does that mean we don’t have to hear about her any more from her parents on the stump?  Does that mean she will no longer grace a stage with them on campaign stops?  Because the second she does, she stops being a private citizen and becomes just as much fair game as anyone else.

We think this is most likely an attempt to distract the public from the fact that the Clinton Camp threatened GQ into spiking a negative story about Hillary, since they have no legal standing whatsoever.  But we won’t forget.  As Mickey Kaus asked yesterday:

Could the piece have been as bad for the Clinton camp as the publicity they’re now getting? Are they still not quite operating in the internet age?

As an endnote, if the children of politicians are “off limits,” where is the outrage over every anti-war fascist calling for the Bush twins to be drafted (even though we have an all volunteer army), or the screams of how unfair it is when anyone comments on the perceived relationship between Rudy Giuliani and his children, or the invasion of privacy by some left-wing bloggers into the Facebook and MySpace profiles of politician’s children?

Man, the crickets are loud tonight.

We don’t disagree that Chelsea should be left alone, unless and until she sets foot on stage with her parents again, but we don’t like double standards.  Leave them all alone, and stop using them a props.

Dems Vote Against Condemning MorOn.org

Seventy-Nine Democrats just voted against a measure condemning MorOn.org’s dispicable attack on our soldiers and General Patraeus.  SEVENTY NINE. The motion stated:

It is the Sense of the Congress that the House of Representatives–

(1) recognizes the service of General David H. Petraeus, as well as all other members of the Armed Forces serving in good standing, in the defense of the United States and the personal sacrifices made by General Petraeus and his family, and other members of the Armed Forces and their families, to serve with distinction and honor;

(2) commits to judge the merits of the sworn testimony of General David H. Petraeus without prejudice or personal bias, including refraining from unwarranted personal attacks;

(3) condemns in the strongest possible terms the personal attacks made by the advocacy group MoveOn.org impugning the integrity and professionalism of General David H. Petraeus;

(4) honors all members of the Armed Forces and civilian personnel serving in harm’s way, as well as their families; and

(5) pledges to debate any supplemental funding request or any policy decisions regarding the war in Iraq with the solemn respect and the commitment to intellectual integrity that the sacrifices of these members of the Armed Forces and civilian personnel deserve.

The House members that voted against it were (Compare that list with this one):

It isn’t often we rejoice in news of an attack in the Middle East…

…but for news like this we will make an exception.

Two Saudi girls were approached by officials from the “Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” because they were dress inappropriately.  Upon getting a good talking to for daring to dress in any way other than that mandated by their government for women to dress, the girls had had enough.

One of them pepper-sprayed the two men while the other one filmed it with a camera phone.  They were caught, but their sense of freedom and the courage to do what they did will hopefully inspire others to say they’ve had enough.

The girls were “escorted to the police station where they apologized for the attack, were cautioned and then released.”

While they were “released,” it would seem they were already freer than most people, certainly the women, in Saudi Arabia.  Let’s hope it’s contagious.

Ahmadinejad: No gays in Iran and women have it easy.

Having just caught at bit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s speech, one part struck us as, well, odd.

When asked why they oppress homosexuals and women in Iran, his answer was laughed at, rightfully so.

He said there are no gays in Iran.  Iran, it seems, is the only place on earth free of homosexuals.  By denying they exist he successfully avoided answering the question.

Then he went on to women, saying they are very respected in Iran.  Respected to the point that they are exempt from many social responsibilities forced (presumably) on men.  They even get their hands kissed by their children, so they’ve got that going for them.

He essentially referred to women as baby-making machines, admired for their ability to birth children.

So it seems women have a great life, as long as they don’t aspire to more than vessels of reproduction.

According to Ahmadinejad Iran is simply a misunderstood paradise for all.  Doesnt’ seem like these people agree.

Some Questions for Ahmadinejad

To date, Columbia University has not cancelled its Q & A session with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, scheduled for next Monday, September 24th.  Assuming the event proceeds as scheduled, Columbia University students and faculty might consider taking the unusual opportunity to ask Ahmadinejad the following questions.

Does Iran have universities where leaders of foreign nations that officially claim Iran to be their enemy and that threaten to wipe an ally of Iran off the face of the map can come and speak freely to a voluntarily attending audience of Iranian students and faculty?  If not, why?

Have you set a date yet for wiping Israel off the face of the earth?

Did you play a role in the Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979?  If so, why?

Did the Holocaust happen?  If it didn’t, how has the rest of the world been fooled into believing it did?

Is it true that Iran has gulag-style jails where dissidents are sent – often to their death?  If so, why does the government of Iran feel compelled to jail and execute political dissidents?

What do you think of a University like this, that is flush with diverse political views and political dissidents, given your government allows nothing resembling it in Iran?

These for starters…

Bridge to Nowhere project going nowhere (finally)!

One of the more notable pork projects in recent memory finally went the way of the dodo bird today, the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere.”  We say notable and not scandalous because it is far from unique in Washington for garbage like this to make its way into hugeYour tax dollar get the day off, but will be back to being wasted in no time. bills and Jack Murtha (D-PA) is still in Congress to load up on our money for his donors.

But he’s hardly alone in that either, sadly.

We’d be happier if this meant the government was going to spend any money less than they had planned, but that’s not the way things go in DC.  The money will be wasted someplace else.

They only thing government is efficient at is wasting our money on things it has no business spending money on in the first place.  But we’re not cynical or anything…

Top 20 Reasons Nancy Pelosi is Afraid to Call Vote to Condemn MoveOn.org

Good stuff from the NRCC:

Washington- MoveOn.org has Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats in a state of political paralysis. Either the Speaker stands by MoveOn.org’s treacherous attack against General Petraeus or she is afraid of MoveOn.org’s political wrath. Any way you look at it, it appears that defending a military General with an impeccable record who has dedicated his life to defending America is not a high priority for Nancy Pelosi.

Below are the top 20 reasons why Nancy Pelosi has refused to follow the Democrat-led Senate’s lead in calling a vote to condemn MoveOn.org’s ad:

Douchebag of the Week

You are a DouchebagUnable to pull our troops out of Iraq immediately, Democrats have unsuccessfully tried several “slow bleed” tactics in an attempt to supersede our military commanders and run the war.  The attempt this week earns its sponsor, Senator Jim Webb of Virginia, the infamous Douchebag of the Week Award.

Webb sponsored an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill that would seem sympathetic on its face.  It would demand that troops spend as much time at home as they spend in Iraq or Afghanistan.  That seems fairly common sense, but it implies something offensive and is a foot in the door for Congress to run the war.

First, it implies our military commanders who are directly responsible for the lives of our soldiers don’t care about the readiness of our military.  It’s absurd.  Our commanders have every reason to ensure that our fighting force is in the best possible shape, both physically and emotionally.

Second, if Congress can create a formula that effectively forces our military leaders to pull out troops, it’s no different than legislation demanding troop redeployment.  And Congress has repeatedly rejected similar legislation.

Luckily, the back door attempt to control the war failed.  It sends a strong message to the left that Congress should not be trying to run the war from Washington.

But unfortunately for Webb, it earns him the Dounchebag of the Week!

Breaking news: Dan Rather is still getting things wrong. (Ok, not really “breaking” news)

Dan Rather, the disgraced and dismissed former anchor of CBS News, is upset about government and corporations are influencing news.  On Larry King Live last night he said Don't worry, I only shoot myself...in the foot.this:

“Somebody, sometime has got to take a stand and say democracy cannot survive, much less thrive with the level of big corporate and big government interference and intimidation in news.”

Dan Rather is hardly the man to make that stand.

We don’t buy his theory, but believe in something similar.  Reporters allow their personal feelings and thoughts about government and corporations to have influence over their reporting of the news.

Our REPUBLIC (we’re not democracy, Dan) is surviving, and thriving in spite of the best efforts of you and your ilk to undermine the parts of the Constitution with which you disagree.

Our Founding Fathers gave us a pathway to change the Constitution if it needed to be changed.  Liberals know they’ll never have the votes to push forward their agenda, so they’ve taken to the courts and liberal judges who “find” rights to what they want.

How is it that in the one document meant to be unambiguous about the power of government, ambiguity is found by judges appointed by liberals?  If the Founding Father meant for the federal government to do half of what it is currently doing, wouldn’t they have made it do that in the first place?  They were, after all, around for a while after this nation’s founding.

Dan, we liked you better when you were gone.
